This is Entry 8: Brian on The Aisle
I don't get out to the Movie very offen but yesterday I went. There is a theater a few block from where I live. Upside: All films 3 bucks. Downside (sort of): They don't play current films, you have to wait few months for those to come there. But hey, a film in a theater for 3 bucks? Who can beat that!
What I saw was & will review is: Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer.
I saw the first film & thought it was an ok film but they screwed up one thing (DOOM!). What did they screw up this time? If it was anything it was Galacticus or big menacing space cloud. Now I'm sure most people would have wanted The big G to be a person but I can kind of see the thinking behind the cloud thing (I'm not as angry as I was with them screwing up ol' Doc Doom). Speaking of Vic: They partly redeemed themselves with his appearance in this film. He was closer to his comic book roots in this film (I was kind of happy). The more Marvel Films I see they more they start to look the same. The "Black Forest, Germany" looked alot like where Stryker's compound was from X2 or where The Brotherhood camped out in X3. The government facility used looked alot like Strykers' place, too. I'd I'll let it slide. I liked what they did with The Surfer, he got some respect & seemed close to his comic book roots (not like big G). I wouldn't mind seeing him again (seeing what played during the closing credits: I might). Also, what was with Jessica Alba? Something just looked off about her. I'm not sure what it was.
What FF3 should be (because I'm almost sure there will be one)? The team goes to the Negative Zone. I doubt that will happen but it would be cool if it did.
So, for Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer I give it 3 cosmically irradiated stars out of 5. It wasn't the greatest film ever but wasn't the worst either. It had some action, some humorous parts. It keep me entertained for the hour & half. But, that's what I went for.
On a related note: The extended edition of the first film is pretty good. The first disc (The disc with the movie) is ok. But the second disc (The one with the extras) are where it really shined. I'd just get it just for that & have an ok movie that comes with it as a bonus.

This is Entry 7: Comic Book Cavalcade!
Or: The Comic Book Cavalcade!
There's less to talk about this time. Only one weeks worth of stuff & not 2 or 3 weeks worth of stuff. We got a 2 things from DC & 3 from Marvel, with a magazine thrown in for good measure.
First up: DC.
Superman #666. Yes, you read that right. it's issue 666 & guess what Superman man fights in the issue? Yes, The Devil. Well, not The Devil. But, a Kryptonian counterpart (apparently their was a few devils in the Kryptonian afterlife & went the planet went bye bye: Only one survived & some also made it's way to Earth). There is a wacked out "dream" sequence in the issue (Lots o' Death).
On a somewhat related note, Batman pasted the 666 issue resecent but didn't do a similar Devil inspired issue. The next I'll be commenting on is Batman #668, the second part to the Clud of Heroes story (I talk about part 1 a few posts down the blog). It's starts off the issue with some cool retro styled art. Through out the issue there are some interesting usasge of panels.
Next: Marvel.
Issue 2 of Starlord, 1 of the 4 prologue series to Annihilation: Conquest (I talk about one of the other books, Quasar, a few posts down the blog). The "Dirty Dozen in Space" continue on their mission. One memeber kicks the bucekt, pushes up daises, bites the bullet, dies. One appears to sacrafices themself but I'm not sure if they do. Plus, what's not no to like with a book who has a talking, gun toting Racoon?
I picked up 2 books by Jeff Parker: Mystic Arcana: Scarlet Witch & X-Men: First Class. The Scarlet Witch book is part of 4 issue miniseries "exploring the four corners of magic in the Marvel Universe" (according to the book). It's got this cool intro paragraph (I'd type it out here, but it's really long & I'm lazy). The book was an intresting look at a prepowers Wanda. I haven't picked up the other books (which focus of Magik & the Black Knight) but I might. The last book focus' on Sister Grimm (from Runaways) which I might pick up or at least look at. The X-Men is a reworking of their early days, which I doubt are cannon. But, it's nice book. It has some humor that I liked & the backup story was cute.
A Comics related Magazine called Comic Foundry, I picked up the 1st issue partly because they have an interview with Kristen Bell in it. But, I'm always open to trying something new. My verdict is: Good. I'd pick up Issue 2. The magazine isn't about Comics directly but about stuff around comics (The people who make them, people who read them, clothes, trends, etc.). It is in black & white. Tbe lay out reminded me part of Entertainment Weekly which isn't bad. Their Webiste is: comicfoundry.com
One last time: The bag I brought all my stuff home in had an Ad for the BBC America rebroadcast of the Doctor Who spin-off: Torchwood (Captain Jack looked quite dashing). The series premires September 9th, here states side.

This is Entry 6: Quick Hits!
In the Entry just one post down, I "talked" about the podcast Fresh Ink, just saw the lastest episode & there has been a change. Before it was a odcasted version of the TV segment but now they are online, as a pure Podcast. According to the episode, they ddi this so they hope to get more Comics reviewed (which is always a plus, at least for me).
TV News: Ringing in a new Hero.
It was revealed yesterday that Kristin Bell, formerly of the CW's Veronica Mars, will be on the next season of NBC's mega hit: Heroes. She will be a character called Elle who is "a sexy, intriguing, mysterious young lady who has ties to Peter's apparent death, H.R.G.'s past, and Claire's future. When viewers first meet Elle in October, she will commit a terrible crime, but it will be unclear whose side she is really on."
Is isn't the only thing we'll be seeing/hearing her in. She's the lead in a Judd Apatow (Knocked up, 40 year old Virgin, Superbad, etc.) romatic comedy called: Forgetting Sarah Marshall. She'll be the love letter to Star Wars: Fanboys (A movie I'm kind of excited to see). She provides her voice to 20th Century Fox's animated movie: Sheepish & she narrates the new CW series: Gossip Girl. (I got this info from a post on the Comics Continuum).
If I have more: I'll add more. I doubt I will. But, I might.

This is Entry 5: Podcasting the Blog!
Here are few Podcasts that I enjoy thought I'd share with you. 2 are video, 2 are about Comic Books, 2 feature Woman prodomently. But I will only be telling you about 3 Podcasts. I get most of podcast via iTunes & all of these are where no money is exchanged for these (i.e. they are free).

An audio podcast about a visual medium: Around Comics. According to their site (aroundcomics.com), their podcasts are a "comic book roundtable [with a] revolving panel of guests discussing current comics, artists, writers, industry news, reviews and interviews." I find they quite informative & funny. The "roundtable" as they call is bunch of guys who gather together in a local Chicago Comic Book store (Dark Tower Comics) on Mondays & Thursdays where they discuss things "in & Around Comics" (hense the name). In most of the episodes I've heard they have at least one person from the Industry there. They also do special episodes from time to, I really the "Comics 101" episodes (where they take a topics devote the entire episode & give you all you'd need to know about the topic). You can get their podcasts either from their site or from iTunes.
A Hot Chick with Comics: Fresh Ink. According to iTunes,"When it comes to Comics, get the podcast that really delivers. Host Blair Butler finds out what rocks and what needs to be recycled in the world of graphic novels, superhero news, and geek culture. This is podcasted version of a segment of the G4 Network's Program Attack the Show with their Comic Book Goddess Blair Butler. What could be better then a hot girl talking about Comics? Well, World Peace, Cure to all know disease, a life time supply of Carwax. Well, made this podcast is better then that last one. But, I digress. You can see her reviews on air, get them via iTunes & sometimes they are even on G4's site (g4tv.com). She also does other reporting from the network which are sometimes podcasted/put on G4's site.
To find either of these Podcasts, go to the iTunes store, click on the "Podcast" to the left, once you at the Pocast pages go to the bottom right hand corner under the "Topics in Focus" rectangle, click on "Comic Culture", that page page has 20 Comic book related Podcasts. I just highlighted 2 I like.
Lastly, a non Comics related Podcast: WebbAlert. It's a 5 minute (plus 1 ad) run down of Tech news that host, Morgan Webb, has found & thought was worth reporting on. She does it Monday thru Thursday (unless she traveling for her job that pays the bills). It's a bit odd that it's mostly a close up of just her head, I wouldn't mind if they zoomed out a bit (maybe to her shoulders). She has site devoted to the Podcast (webbalert.com) but I've been having problems getitng the site to load & iTunes is being annoying because it won't download the podcast to my computer. But, some people are uploading alot of the episodes to YouTube.

This is Entry 4: Comic Book Round-Up!
This will be a some what frequent feature here on MyBlog (Not sure I use the "Comic Book Round-Up" subtitle). Now what this "round-up" will most likely consist of: Me rambling on about Comic Books I've read both New & old. I'll be rambling on about related subjects (Movies, Tv Shows, Cartoons, Action figures, T-shirts, etc.) I'll try to divide this stuff into subcatergories that will make sense. I may also try to add Pic's to these posts.
I got a some what sizible pile today so let's dive in!

First up, DC Comics:
I picked the 1st issue of the new Booster Gold, it spins directly out of the events of 52. Now I have been liking Booster's subplot in the book (I've been reading 52 in the collected editions). Plus, I like the genral idea behind the character, so when I found out that he would be getting his own book: I decided to check it out. And my virdict for the issue: Good. I'll pick up the next issue. The whole "time travel" idea is a personal fav of mine (so is "alternate realities" which factor into the book, too). Now it's time for an Unfounded Prediction: Rip Hunter is a Carter (Which means he a family member of Booster Gold). He (Rip) mentions that "Rip Hunter" is not his real name in the book & certain things seem to click in my mind that a revealation of Rip been a Carter might be possible but as I said it's an Unfounded Prediction!
Next up: Batman #667. You know a bout is going to be something a little different when Grant Morrison is writting the book. This issue starts off a story that I heard about a few months ago & thought it was an interesting. Mr. Morrison is taking an idea from an old 1950's Batman comic & bringing it in the present day. The general background is Jonathan Mayhew brought together a group of a crime fighters from all around the world to form The International Club of Heroes. The group met once of twice & then disbanded. It's years later they are all back together, this will be a regualr meetings. It's now. Someone, calling themself called The Black Glove, has killed Mayhew. So, the Club of Heroes must descover who the Black Glove is before they kill the heroes. They have a day & no means of escape from the island there are on. Intresting concept. If Mr. Morrison does this cool of thing with something from the 50's, I wonder what he could do with a personal fav Bat-Characters from that same era: Bat-Mite? One can dream, can't he?
My last DC Book is a Justice League, but not just any JL book but Justice League Unlimited #36. Yup, the animated version. I liked the cartoon. One of the better things I've on the ol' Boob Tube in rescent years. I picked up this issue specifically because it focuses on one of my Fav chaaracters from the 'Toon: The Question (who was also used in 52 but that was a "different" version). I like the JLU comic because you got to see a litlte more of the other Memeber beyond the Big 7 (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter & who ever is consider the 7th big member at the moment).

Now on to Marvel Comics, a company I've give a lot of my money to.
Now I, like many had past over the series of book under heading of Annihilation but & maybe like me are find out that that books kicks some major butt! Well, we have a change to redeem ourselves with reading Annihilation: Conquest. I picked up the book that bridges the gap between the 2 epics on a whim & discover much goodness between it's flimsy covers. I've been picking up 2 of the 4 Prologue books: Starlord (Think "The Dirty Dozen" but in space) & Quasar (Think Joan of Arc but in space). I just picked up Issue 2 of Quasar (Issue 2 of Starlord isn't out yet) & it doth have much coolness. Super-Adaptoid who is kind of a low level Villain has never been so cool (at least to me). Pick it up & enjoy!
I like many people picked up Captain America #25 to see how he bites the bullet, pushes up daisies, joins the the invisible choir, dies. It was a good issue but I decided to stick around & see how a Book goes on with out it's title character. It's now 4 issues later (Issue #29) & it's doing quite nicely. Ed Brubaker has crafted a nice epioniage story fro all to enjoy. Now I hadn't read much of his stuff before & am thinking of going back to do so. Sidenote: I got a slight crush on the Red Skull's daugther, Sin, but I know she'd probably kill for doing so.
Nest up is a Mini-Series that disappointed (at least for me): Omega Flight. It just took to darn long to get going & then once it did it was over to soon. It was 5 issues long & the team wasn't even together fully until Issue 4. I had had high hopes for the series but it let me down.
I have a soft spot for loser supervillains so it does me great joy to see a book like MODOK's 11 on the shelves. If you liked "Ocean's 11" of which it take it's general premise & then goes off into Super Villiany goodness: You might like this. Plus, who does like a giant floating head with little almost useless limbs just hanging there (MODOK would probably kill me for saying that).
Like Omega Flight, here is a book that is letting me down which is said since I have the whole series up to now: That series is Exiles. It just seems lag along, which it has down before. It need to pick up. It only has a few issues before it hits the 100 issues mark.
The biggest book in this pile, clocking at 104 pages, is Spider-Man Family #4. I picked this up for the lead story, Spider-Man meets the Agents of Atlas. They had a recent mini-series that I loved (bought all the issue, even the hardcover collected edition). What nice about this story is that it's by the same people who did the Mini-Series (Writer Jeff Parker & Artist Leonard Kirk). Also, this is like the 3rd or 4th post Mini-Series appearance of the Agents (which are all written by Parker who has been putting out a couple books for Marvel). I hope with all these appearances: they get a second Mini-Series.
Now a somewhat bittersweet review: Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four #4 which is done by Parker & Artist Mike Wieringo, who just rescently past away. With this one Issue Wieringo did something I didn't think could happen: He made the Impossible Man look creepy. It's sad that we won't get to enjoy his art anymore (for mor eon my thoughts on Wieringo, look down a post).

2 Books from small companies:
First is Ape Entertainment's Bizarre New World #3. It's a comic about a Guy who can fly. Yes, like Superman but this Guy isn't a superhero or have any other powers. He's just a guy who can fly. This is the 3rd issue in a 3 issue mini-series. From the what I rea din the back: there might be a 2nd mini series or become an on going series which would be cool. Also there is going to some Online stories set in the same world. They will be at bizarrenewworld.com
The other book is from Oni Press, that book is Maintenance, it's about 2 Janitors who work for a Major Super Villian company & the comic chronicles their misadventures. I know a guy (via the 'Net) who works on the book which is an added bonus to a book I like.

- The Incredible Hulk #271: 1st Appearance of Rocket Raccon (who is currently costarring in Starlord. This book also marks Hulk's 20th Anniversary
- Marvel Tales #1: 1st Apperance of Peter Porker, The Spectagular Spider-Ham. Yeah. The 80's were great, weren't they?
- X-Men #143: the last issue of John Bryne's run on X-Men (The letters to the editor page has a letter from future comic book writer: Kurt Busiek).

I like the JLU comic because you got to see a litlte more of the other Memeber beyond the Big 7 (Superman, Batman, Wonder Woman, Flash, Green Lantern, Martian Manhunter & who ever is consider the 7th big member at the moment).
Now on to Marvel Comics, a company I've give a lot of my money to.
Now I, like many had past over the series of book under heading of Annihilation but & maybe like me are find out that that books kicks some major butt! Well, we have a change to redeem ourselves with reading Annihilation: Conquest. I picked up the book that bridges the gap between the 2 epics on a whim & discover much goodness between it's flimsy covers. I've been picking up 2 of the 4 Prologue books: Starlord (Think "The Dirty Dozen" but in space) & Quasar (Think Joan of Arc but in space). I just picked up Issue 2 of Quasar (Issue 2 of Starlord isn't out yet) & it doth have much coolness. Super-Adaptoid who is kind of a low level Villain has never been so cool (at least to me). Pick it up & enjoy!
I like many people picked up Captain America #25 to see how he bites the bullet, pushes up daisies, joins the the invisible choir, dies. It was a good issue but I decided to stick around & see how a Book goes on with out it's title character. It's now 4 issues later (Issue #29) & it's doing quite nicely. Ed Brubaker has crafted a nice epioniage story fro all to enjoy. Now I hadn't read much of his stuff before & am thinking of going back to do so. Sidenote: I got a slight crush on the Red Skull's daugther, Sin, but I know she'd probably kill for doing so.
Nest up is a Mini-Series that disappointed (at least for me): Omega Flight. It just took to darn long to get going & then once it did it was over to soon. It was 5 issues long & the team wasn't even together fully until Issue 4. I had had high hopes for the series but it let me down.
I have a soft spot for loser supervillains so it does me great joy to see a book like MODOK's 11 on the shelves. If you liked "Ocean's 11" of which it take it's general premise & then goes off into Super Villiany goodness: You might like this. Plus, who does like a giant floating head with little almost useless limbs just hanging there (MODOK would probably kill me for saying that).
Like Omega Flight, here is a book that is letting me down which is said since I have the whole series up to now: That series is Exiles. It just seems lag along, which it has down before. It need to pick up. It only has a few issues before it hits the 100 issues mark.
The biggest book in this pile, clocking at 104 pages, is Spider-Man Family #4. I picked this up for the lead story, Spider-Man meets the Agents of Atlas. They had a recent mini-series that I loved (bought all the issue, even the hardcover collected edition). What nice about this story is that it's by the same people who did the Mini-Series (Writer Jeff Parker & Artist Leonard Kirk). Also, this is like the 3rd or 4th post Mini-Series appearance of the Agents (which are all written by Parker who has been putting out a couple books for Marvel). I hope with all these appearances: they get a second Mini-Series.
Now a somewhat bittersweet review: Spider-Man and the Fantastic Four #4 which is done by Parker & Artist Mike Wieringo, who just rescently past away. With this one Issue Wieringo did something I didn't think could happen: He made the Impossible Man look creepy. It's sad that we won't get to enjoy his art anymore (for mor eon my thoughts on Wieringo, look down a post).
2 Books from small companies:
First is Ape Entertainment's Bizarre New World #3. It's a comic about a Guy who can fly. Yes, like Superman but this Guy isn't a superhero or have any other powers. He's just a guy who can fly. This is the 3rd issue in a 3 issue mini-series. From the what I rea din the back: there might be a 2nd mini series or become an on going series which would be cool. Also there is going to some Online stories set in the same world. They will be at bizarrenewworld.com
The other book is from Oni Press, that book is Maintenance, it's about 2 Janitors who work for a Major Super Villian company & the comic chronicles their misadventures. I know a guy (via the 'Net) who works on the book which is an added bonus to a book I like.

- The Incredible Hulk #271: 1st Appearance of Rocket Raccon (who is currently costarring in Starlord. This book also marks Hulk's 20th Anniversary
- Marvel Tales #1: 1st Apperance of Peter Porker, The Spectagular Spider-Ham. Yeah. The 80's were great, weren't they?
- X-Men #143: the last issue of John Bryne's run on X-Men (The letters to the editor page has a letter from future comic book writer: Kurt Busiek).

This is Entry 3: Crap! I liked Him!
I just found out Comic book artist, Mike Wieringo died yesterday of a sudden heart attack. The details at the moment are sketchy.
Now I had never met him but had gotten into checking his Blog (at MikeWieringo.com) & he seemed liked a nice guy. He'd update the blog 2 or 3 times a week & he'd post some really cool stuff. I think one of my favorite things he posted was of Dr. Sivanna (villain to Captain Marvel).
'Ringo had a style all his own & I'm sure will be missed.

This is Entry 2: What the Internet Says about me!
Now I've taking a few Online Personality tests. [Why? Because I was bored & had the time.] So, I've combined the results together into one nice, neat little post. Surprisingly enough a lot of thisstuff is true.

I am a Demon Hunting, Shape Shifting, Sleek Black Bra of a Geek with the name of Yoshifumi Takashi who likes listens to the Adult Alternative music genre. I am surfing along the same brainwaves of Dennis Leary & know a variety of different slang words. I'm most like these fictional characters: Darth Vader, Luke Skywalker, Batman, Alfred Pennyworth [Batman's Butler], Snuffleupagus, Gonzo & Reep Daggle [Legion of Super Heroes member: Chameleon].
What does this mean?
- I'm subtle, sophisticated, classy & have Wackitude.
- I may not be the first person you notice in the room but I'm the one you remember a week later.
- I am a free spirit who has great wisdom/insight beyond my years/experience.
- I can find the path no one else can see.
- I am someone who is passionate about some particular area/subject that isn't quite mainstream. This is often an obscure and/or a difficult one. These interests take me to gatherings that are filled with people I find unusual and "beyond-the-pale", I don't quite consider myself "of that crowd" but consider myself to be fairly normal.
- I tend to follow the crowd to a degree, but I am also quite amused by the world around me & I find it strange that a lot of the people take this for granted.
- I'm not annoyed by change, but at STUPID change with no benefit.
- I have a good idea where I put things. Also, I'm not totally obsessed with neatness but my place is reasonably clean.
- I know when to be logical but I'm not afraid to explore my dreams and desires... within limits, of course.
- I am somewhat introverted & like to have some time to myself.
- I appreciate spending time with my few friends.
- I am often misunderstood & have great potential.
When It comes my "Ideal" woman [according to the 'Net], she would be a "Hot Friend" who would make a lasting impression on me. She would be relatively thin but yet has some curves to her, offer a nice combination of face to body & have a medium sized breasts & rear end. She also would have a sexy yet an inherent cute composure to her that can't be hidden. She could possibly look like a mix of Jessica Alba, Alexis Bledel, Natalie Portman & Heidi Klum.

This is Entry 1: The Beginning!
Welcome to this little corner of the Blog O' Sphere.
I've thought about creating a Blog from sometime [like a few weeks]. I don't really have anything truly earth shattering to share with y'all. But, I've got some stuff that I might like to share with you so hense this Blog entitled: MyBlog
What will most likely see on this thing we call Blog: My thoughts on stuff. Yeah. I know. Real specific, Brian. What these thoughts will most likely be about are things of no real conscience like TV [which I watch a whole lot of] & Comic Books [which I read a whole lot of]. There might be other things, I don't know. Lay off. This is only my first post.
